on top the rolling seas - august 9, 2002
On top the rolling seas
If I chance to come upon you
And make it all worthwhile
And fix my gaze beyond you
Then truth I must
Be held account to
And so if I deign
To come down to you
Then hate me not
Then hate me not

my old Smith-Corona
sometimes it seems as though
all of life could be contained
in the keys of a typewriter
that all the world's emotions
are caught up in the clicking of the keys
life and death, embodied in the alphabet
such great power can be wielded
through such tiny characters
and yet with such foolish recklessness
are words thrown out to the world
and so, may i always remember the power
living in the keys of my old Smith-Corona

faith's credence - date unknown
If upon my life you weigh
The credence of this all
And if my face I turn away
By faith in me I fall
And why you deign to look
At this unworthy soul
When 'tis you I have forsook
Withholding you your toll
Turn your face from me!
Is my hymn of ire
And responding to my plea
You pull me from the mire
Why can't you do
What I demand you?
Why must you be
So bent to free me?
In this cell that I have fashioned
Bound solely by my pride
Lost my faith tho' t'was rationed
This hope I thought you lied

the mind inside my eye
can see with tragic clarity
blue is blue, green is green
the bane of my existence
lies in these mis-translations
of these all too vivid pictures
i lack the quality and quantity
of skill of any kind
these perfect works, left behind
are doomed to death inside my mind

life inevitable
the smell of damp earth
and grass decaying under your feet
somehow brings visions of life
into the world around you
you can't help but see
the grass as emerald green
in the eye inside your mind
and life is everywhere you look
Spring is the season of life
as Fall is the season of passing
no matter the many Falls
Spring always comes around
and new life is inevitable
and your faith is renewed again...

june afternoon
the warmth of spring
falls upon my face like
the rain on a june afternoon
the sunrays surround me
wrap around me like
the arms of a loving mother
the clouds smile at me
as the race accross the sky
in search of something
and i am here on the ground
taking it all in
and i too am in search of something
